Is there anyone flying with an aluminium fuel tank out there who could give me some help in developing one here in UK?

Re: Aluminium fuel tank
Does anyone already fly with an aluminium tank on an MCR ?
I never heard about anyone doing...
Druine, why are you looking to install such a system ? Is it because of the seal or you have a diferent reason to ?

Aluminium fuel tank
There are two reasons for installing one - many have had problems with leaks from the original carbon and this seems to get worse with age. Repairs are difficult and not always successful. Also it is possible to fit an aluminium tank in a similar way to the way that Dyn Aero now fit their new tanks -independent of the Pontet making access to firewall and instruments/wiring much easier. I also think it will work out much cheaper than buying a retrofit kit from Dyn Aero of a new tank.

Re: Aluminium fuel tank
Your idea is not bad: I'll try to find a company in France that can give us a quote. If anybody has an exact plan of the fuel tank (old and new version), it will be easier to explain them...
Are you sure there is no problem to make it in aluminium?

Sorry for so long to reply.
We are now about half way through building a tank here - and getting LAA approval. More news later but the tank will be a copy of the DynAero shape, but fit under the pontet. Retrofittable. More news later.

Aluminium fuel tank
With the problems concerning the Carbon fuel tank, leaks and bubbling fuselage cover, we have part fabricated an aluminium tank here and are proceeding through approval for fitting. We reckon the cost will work out to about £1000 per tank. ETA of finsihed item about another 3 months or so. Fitting will be relatively easy. More later.

Thank' s for your excellent solution. Please put all new informations in this forum; we are a lot of MCR owner in France searching a true solution to the numerous & severe tank's pbs. If your aluminium tank is a true solution allowing the use of SP95 with 10% ethanol added gas, be sure you will sell a lot of tanks in France
